Ben Overby is a managing partner of The Vernon Law Firm in Burlington, where he has practiced law since 2001. Overby maintains a general practice with an emphasis on Business and Corporate Law, Estate Planning and Administration and Civil Litigation. Prior to entering private practice, Overby was a judicial law clerk to the former Chief Judge of the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the Hon. Sidney S. Eagles, Jr. He holds a B.A. in History and Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a J.D., summa cum laude, from the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University, where he served as Notes and Comments Editor of the Campbell Law Review.

A past board member of The Burlington School, Family Abuse Services of Alamance County and Burlington Recreation and Parks, Overby currently volunteers his time in local public school and community youth athletics. He has coached and contributed to sports programs throughout Alamance County, including the Alamance County Community YMCA, church basketball, Burlington Recreation and Parks’ baseball and soccer programs, the Piedmont Community Lacrosse Association, and the Alamance County Recreation and Parks’ football league. He firmly believes in the positive impact that organized athletics has on children’s lives, and has served as both Vice-President and Treasurer for the Walter M. Williams High School Athletic Booster Club for the past five years.

Overby attends Grove Park Baptist Church in Burlington with his family where he has served as a Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher and Finance Committee Chair. He has been married to his wife Katie for thirty years. The two have three boys: Benjamin, Thomas, and William. Benjamin is in his third year of law school at the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University. Thomas graduated from Appalachian State University in December 2025. William is a senior at Walter M. Williams High School with plans to enroll in the School of Engineering at North Carolina State University in the fall of 2026.
